Is silver the new gold?

As precious metal prices surge ever upwards, jewellery made of them also becomes more expensive to buy – which can seem off putting.

Gold has doubled in price over the past three years; and Sterling silver has increased in value at an even faster rate.

This means, that unlike so many things in life, fine quality gold - and now silver - jewellery is one lovely thing we can rely on to hold, and now increase, its value.

But as these prices continue to rise, solid gold can sometimes seem like a bit too much of a stretch, but thankfully there is an equally gorgeous alternative. Properly created gold vermeil can look just as lovely.

Simply put, vermeil is a unique process and consists of a layer of gold being bonded onto Sterling silver - it is the highest quality option beyond standard gold plating.

Whilst many of our pieces are available to be made for you in 9, 14 and 18 carat gold (as well as platinum), at Geronimo Jones we have always loved gold vermeil as a superb alternative to solid gold; but to look sensational it must be done very well. That is why we always vermeil in England and use 3-4 microns of 18 carat gold on fine Sterling silver. This is considerably deeper than many vermeils.

We do this because we want your piece to look as fabulous in years to come as it does when it comes out of the box.

Give the gift that keeps on giving – precious things, beautifully made from Geronimo Jones.
